Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Ok, so maybe my rhyming skills are not my strong suit but none the less it is a great time to get those orders in for next’s year’s projects. Just when you thought stainless prices had hit bottom, they just fell just little more for January. Moly takes a tumble heading into 2009.  Currently both nickel and moly are on the decline.  November nickel averaged $4.85 per pound versus October $5.5064 per pound.  This obviously will push the 304/304L surcharge down to $0.5352 per pound for the month of January.  The big impact comes from dramatic drops in Moly. November Moly averaged $10.00 per pound versus October's  $26.12 per pound. The 316/316L surcharge for January will be $0.7431 per pound which is a $0.57 per pound drop from December surcharge. Looks like all the big players are cutting back production until demand picks back up so we will keep watch out for you to see how the market reacts for February.

 

Stainless lead times are 4 to 10 weeks

Carbon prices are softening and Lead times are 5 to 6 weeks.
