 MAY NEWSLETTER - There is no end in site! Nickel pricing is moving up again to all new levels. As of today, the nickel average for May is a whopping $23.73 per pound versus last month of $22.80 per pound. Same old story, July stainless surcharges will increase dramatically. The 304/304L surcharge for June will be $2.2098 versus $2.0128 per pound in May.  The 316/316L jumped up 23 cents per pound from April to May’s number of $3.2931 per pound.  Stainless lead times range from 6 to 16 weeks.

As for carbon, the prices are on a slight rise and lead time are approximately 5 to 8 weeks.

Brighton Tru-Edge is going Digital!    We are in the process of installing “Real Time Radiography."  This technology brings Brighton to the forefront of our industry for plate weld inspection of head blanks. This type of system is one of the first of its kind in our industry.  Digital technology replaces film type radiography and improves all aspects of the inspection process. Head blanks will now be inspected almost immediately after completion of welding. This alone will improve information flow and process control.

The results will be stored on a CD and maintained at Brighton. The system has been installed and should be on line in a few weeks. We intend to use this process for all of our plate weld inspections eliminating the use of film type radiography.  The process is in full compliance with the ASME Code.
