PICKLING

PART OF THE BRIGHTON TRU-EDGE ADVANTAGE

Pickling is the final process for stainless steel and certain alloys. Common stainless steel will not rust when exposed to normal atmospheric conditions. But many of the heads produced will be subject to acids or other corrosive conditions. Stainless steel has a protective layer that forms when the steel surface reacts to the oxygen. This layer can also be disturbed during the forming process.

Pickling restores the corrosion resistance to the original material properties. During the process the heads are completely submerged in a heated 25 foot tank. The pickling solution consists of 10% nitric acid and 1.5% ammonium biflouride. After pickling the heads are sprayed with a high temperature steam cleaner. Without pickling the integrity of the steel could be diminished over time.

We can also accommodate pickling plate, piping systems or other stainless spare parts.
